Hey guys and gals

I found this useful link on taking photos (on sarah hornik's website). This is EXACTLY how I take my photos and edit them in photoshop but the only difference between the way she takes her photos and the way that I do is that I take mine under an ordinary desk lamp with a peice of white cotton draped below the bead(s) and the light to cut out the glare from the lamp (at least this way I can still take photos even if it's raining outside). I also find that the unsharp mask part is a really important step. I usually use both the sharpen filter and unsharp mask for my photos.

if you have questions feel free to shoot me with them!

How about giving us a little tut at one of the meetings, or better still I'll just send you my beads. My pictures are getting worse not better. How come I have all the patience in the world when it comes to making beads & none at all when taking pictures? Kerry

great tute! Photoshop is a life saver. My partner takes my photos (lucky me!) He takes them under water so there is no light glare, then sharpens them up on the computer

Kerry if you can take your photos out in the sun like sarah hornik does on white paper, email them over to me and I'll edit them for you :) but if all else fails then it doesn't bother me if you send them to me for photographing (then I can have a good drool over the bead goodies too!). Maybe one day I can do a demo at a bead meet... Uni and work is taking up so much of my time though so I don't have a clue when I'll be able to come next :(

Hi Vanessa
That is a great tutorial.
There is so much to taking good shots.
You may have noticed I have been pretty active with posts of late. This is because I have simplified my photo taking so it is no longer a hassle. Thanks to Carli I photograph through thin white nylon cloth in sunlight or with lights with beads on a white paper background.
If some of you are daunted with all those steps in the tutorial try this.
Using Photoshop (it doesn’t have to be the newest.)
I find I just have to do 2 BASIC STEPS. (As well as cropping and resizing.)
GO – Image/Adjustments/Levels
Slide the right and left arrows to meet the edges of the black graph. Sometimes I move the centre along as well but not often. Then click on the right hand eyedropper (set white point) and click somewhere on the white background. Try a couple of areas if you want, then BINGO that’s it.
